Best Tips For Finding a New Job

Finding a job you want can feel overwhelming at times. Finding a job you actually want is a whole other battle! I’m going to share with you a very simple method I use to help myself and my clients avoid getting lost in the maze. Since you don’t know what you want, you don’t know where to start. So here are the steps I take every time I’m faced with a job hunt or trying to help a new client find the right job for them.

Be perfect. Or at least organized...

That’s the only way to ensure that when you walk out the door of your current job it is the last time you will leave that workplace. If you have a job search that is more than just a simple search, I think your first step is to treat the whole process as though you are moving to another home. It’s no good going in for your interview and stating your resume. All those clichés, they do have value. But you need to have an overall game plan.

Learn to Accept Rejection

This is true of more than just job searching. When it comes to most relationships, job interviews, etc. it’s difficult to get good at being rejected. And as difficult as it may be, rejection isn’t something that you should really worry about. The fact of the matter is, life is full of rejection, and being too sensitive to being rejected will probably get in your way, not help you move on and continue your professional goals. You’re probably overreacting anyways.

Do Your Research. No, Really.

Doing your research is critical for any job search. If you’re applying for a job and you don’t research the organization, you don’t know how and if you would be successful there. If you don’t research the organization, you may not have a good sense of what they are looking for, and you may apply for a position that is not going to be a good fit.

Really Work On Your Resume

You want to show that you are relevant to the position and the company. Start this job search with the realization that nothing has changed since your last job search. You are still qualified for the position, you are just applying for another job. This job search will not be to secure a permanent job, but rather, a job with another company. With this job search, you want to create a strong resume so that you can turn the table on your competition. This resume shows how you will be better than other candidates.

Every time you apply for a job, show confidence and motivation.

Before an interview starts, study the company website to see if there are any clues to the type of people who work there. You want to shine so that the employer sees you as the right person for the job. When you are at a job interview, and you are asked if you have any questions, always ask questions! You need to engage with the interviewer and show them that you have interest in the company.

So how are you going to maximise your job search efforts?
